While running for President in the 2016 election, Donald Trump’s mantra was “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN.”
That was the mother of all lies. The country has never been more divided along racial and economic lines than it is today.
And Trump has continuously marginalized minorities, and called immigrants rapists, lazy, and gangsters in the one year he has been in office. Never mind that his grandfather was a German immigrant, his mother Irish, and his ex-wife hails from Czechoslovakia and current wife is from Slovenia.
Did I mention that there are 65,000 immigrants in the U.S. militarly?
I refuse to refer to either Czechoslovakia and Slovenia as “shithole” countries.
But the man has no relationship with the truth and has no shame to embellish. When the leader of the Free World speaks words matter. Not with Donald Trump. For instance;
He said he was against the invasion of Iraq, but that was before he was for it.
He claimed 3 – 5 million illegal votes caused him to lose the popular vote. There is no such evidence, whatsoever.
He told us that his inauguration was the biggest ever. But aerial photos show Obama’s 2009 inauguration was much more heavily attended.
You cannot make up any of Trump’s fabrications.
He claims that the President of Mexico called him to inform him that fewer people are crossing the border since Trump became president. Mexico’s president says this never happened.
It gets better.
Trump claims that “we have trade deficits with almost every country because we had a lot of really bad negotiators making deals with other countries.” That is a big white lie. The U.S. has a trade surplus with more than 100 countries.
And his favorite: the Russia story is a total fabrication. Not. Ask the Deputy Attorney General who this week indicted 13 Russian nationals for meddling in our 2016 election.
Trump has no basic knowledge of how government functions. He says, “But the F.B.I. Person really reports directly to the president of the United States, which is interesting.” Not true. He reports directly to the attorney general.
According to Trump, “122 vicious prisoners, released by the Obama Administration from Gitmo, have returned to the battlefield. Just another terrible decision.” This is yet another attempt to destroy and malign Obama’s legacy: 113 of these prisoners were released by President Bush.
Liars have no honor. According to Trump, “Terrible ! Just found out that Obama had my wires tapped” in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism.” Again, a bold-faced lie. There is no evidence of a wiretap, according to the F.B.I.
Last but not least, The Donald claims that his was the biggest Electoral College win since Ronald Reagan. Not even close : George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama all won bigger margins in the Electoral College.
It is going to be a rough ride the next three years, but this Republic will survive, because it is a land of laws, not men. I do remember Richard “Tricky Dick” Nixon like it was yesterday.
